BlueShore at CapU hosts dance and music party Celebrate Africa! on January 31

Performers include local ensemble Adanu Habobo, dancer-drummer Kwashie Kuwor, marimba master Kurai Mubaiwa, and more

Some of the Pacific Northwest’s premier African drummers and dancers are set to electrify the BlueShore at CapU stage on January 31 at 7:30 pm.

Leading the musical brigade is Capilano University faculty member Kofi Gbolonyo, a revered performer and expert in West African traditional music and dance. Gbolonyo is a founding member of local drum and dance ensemble Adanu Habobo, which will also take to the BlueShore stage.

Joining Adanu Habobo are two special guests: Ontario-based Ghanaian dancer-drummer Kwashie Kuwor, and Vancouver-based Zimbabwean mbira and marimba master Kurai Mubaiwa. Igniting it all will be dozens of musicians from Capilano University groups: CapU African Ensemble, C Band, and Percussion Ensemble, joined by faculty talents Daniel Hersog, Jared Burrows, and Steve Kaldestad.

Celebrating the passion of African rhythm, dance, and culture, the show will feature traditional arrangements as well as new works and intercultural collaborations.
